Olive Ridley Turtles have a spectacular nesting this winter – So There!!!

According to an article, ‘Conservationists divided over Dhamra port’ Author, Kirtiman Awasthi, dated 30th May 2008 in ‘Down to Earth, he comments that ‘There has been no mass nesting this season at Gahirmatha marine sanctuary. Indian conservationists believe this is a fallout of dredging at the port site.’ I am certain that when he is made aware of the fact that this has been a great year for nesting on the beaches of Gahirmatha river, he would come up with some other reason to stall the work at the Dhamra Port. It seems the protest has an agenda other than the interest of the turtle. Well for any one listening please be aware that and over 1.7 lac turtles have already visited to lay their eggs on the beaches of Nasi 1 and Nasi 2. According to divisional forest officer of Bhitarkanika national park, Prasanna Kumar Behera has estimated that about four lakh turtles would lay eggs.
